Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will present at the 2025 MAMA AWARDS when K-pop's biggest night returns to Hong Kong this November 28-29. The ceremony also revealed an unprecedented collaboration with Netflix's blockbuster animated film "KPop Demon Hunters," bringing the fictional groups Saja Boys and HUNTR/X to life through K-pop artists.

CJ ENM announced the star-studded details during a November 11 press conference in Seoul, confirming over 70,000 fans will pack Kai Tak Stadium across two nights - seven times the venue capacity from MAMA's last Hong Kong appearance in 2018.

Major Announcements and Production Upgrades

The ceremony introduces several firsts: 4K live streaming across 250+ regions, the debut MAMA House Band for live accompaniment, and actress Kim Hye-soo's first music awards hosting role. Park Bo-geum returns for his seventh consecutive year as host, handling Chapter 1 on November 28, while Kim leads Chapter 2 on November 29.

Producer Lee Young-joo emphasized the technical evolution. "We're upgrading video and sound systems to capture K-pop's explosive energy with vivid clarity. The house band will deliver fuller, richer performances that showcase what makes these moments unforgettable."

The "HEAR MY ROAR, UH-HEUNG" theme celebrates "heung" - Korea's distinct spirit of joyful energy expressed through music and dance. "K-pop burned bright with heung in 2025," Lee said. "For 30 years, we've created these iconic moments. That tradition continues stronger than ever."

Michelle Yeoh Brings Hollywood Prestige

The Academy Award winner's participation marks a significant moment for K-pop's global expansion. "As K-pop establishes itself in the global mainstream, her presence adds deeper significance," Lee said. "She pioneered new paths from Hong Kong cinema to Hollywood stardom, just as K-pop has blazed its trail worldwide."

Yeoh joins an extensive presenter lineup including Ko Yoon-jung, Park Hyung-sik, Ahn Eun-jin, Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Kwang-soo, Ju Ji-hoon, and Im Si-wan, among 20+ Korean entertainment figures.

Kim Hye-soo, who hosted the Blue Dragon Film Awards for 30 years before stepping down in 2023, expressed enthusiasm about her MAMA debut. "Music connects hearts beyond language. I'll authentically convey that bright energy."

Park Bo-geum teased his seventh hosting appearance: "Every year brings different excitement. I'm secretly preparing a very special gift that fits this year's concept - expect an exhilarating performance."

27 Acts Across Two Nights

Chapter 1 (November 28) features Alpha Drive One making their debut stage following Boys Planet II, while Super Junior celebrates their 20th anniversary with a "Legend Stage" tribute. Other performers include BABYMONSTER, BOYNEXTDOOR, ENHYPEN, (G)I-DLE, IVE, MEOVV, NCT WISH, and TREASURE.

Chapter 2 (November 29) brings heavyweight acts including aespa, G-DRAGON, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and ZEROBASEONE. Rising groups CORTIS, izna, KickFlip, and RIIZE round out the second night.

Exclusive Collaborations Push Creative Boundaries

Park Bo-geum surprises audiences by joining dance crew BumSup from World of Street Woman Fighter for Chapter 1. BOYNEXTDOOR, CORTIS, and TREASURE members will collaborate on a reimagined version of 1TYM's classic "Let's Sing and Dance Together."

Kim Hye-soo teams with Stray Kids' Felix for an opening "message performance" on Chapter 2. ZEROBASEONE's Sung Han-bin collaborates with dancer Kyoka, while Stray Kids debuts their new track "DIVINE" during what producers call a "mega stage."

Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters Comes to Life

MAMA 2025's most ambitious collaboration brings Netflix's animated blockbuster "KPop Demon Hunters" to the stage. K-pop artists will recreate performances by the film's fictional groups - girl group HUNTR/X and demon boy band Saja Boys.

"The member lineup is being finalized," Lee said. "We'll announce it as quickly as possible. This performance transcends the boundary between animation and reality, creating a special stage that unites K-pop fans worldwide."

The collaboration capitalizes on the film's unprecedented cultural impact. Released June 20, 2025, "KPop Demon Hunters" became Netflix's most-watched animated original film with over 325 million views. The soundtrack made Billboard history with four simultaneous Top 10 songs on the Hot 100, while "Golden" reached #1 globally. The film achieved 15 consecutive weeks on Netflix's Top 10 chart - the longest run for any English-language film on the platform.

The animated feature follows three K-pop superstars who secretly protect fans from supernatural threats while managing their fame. Its massive success prompted Netflix to greenlight a sequel scheduled for 2029 release.

Why Hong Kong?

Park Chan-wook addressed questions about hosting overseas rather than domestically. "We've pursued our 'Music Makes One' vision since 2010, leading K-pop's globalization by meeting fans worldwide. Hong Kong offers easy access for global K-pop fans and serves as Asia's mega-event hub."

Kai Tak Stadium opened in March 2025 with Coldplay as its inaugural concert. K-pop acts NCT and SEVENTEEN have performed there, with TWICE scheduled to appear. MAMA 2025 becomes the first K-pop awards ceremony at the 50,000-capacity venue - a significant milestone following MAMA's completion of Japan's three major domes.

Producer Ma Doo-sik highlighted MAMA's unique value: "MAMA differs from regular concerts. We create iconic moments - actors meeting singers, groups collaborating unexpectedly. These differentiated experiences define what makes MAMA special and unmissable."

Hong Kong hosted MAMA consecutively from 2012-2018, making it the city with the most MAMA ceremonies in the event's 26-year history. The awards originated in 1999 as the Mnet Music Video Festival, rebranded to Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2009, then shortened to "MAMA AWARDS" in 2022 to reflect K-pop's global expansion beyond Asia.

Awards are determined through combined music sales data, album performance, and expert judging. PwC (Samil) verifies transparency and fairness through independent auditing, Park confirmed.

The ceremony streams live in 4K across 250+ regions via Mnet Plus on November 28-29, with Visa serving as title sponsor for the second consecutive year.
