N.Flying's Kim Jaehyun Cast in New Drama After Military Discharge
Band member Kim Jaehyun is stepping back into the acting world with his first role since completing military service. The N.Flying drummer has joined the cast of "Romance's Absolute Value," a youth romantic comedy directed by Lee Tae-gon.
Joy News 24 confirmed on November 25 that Jaehyun recently signed on for the project and has already started filming. This marks his acting comeback following his discharge from military service in February 2025.
Leading Role in Coming-of-Age Story
"Romance's Absolute Value" follows a high school girl who secretly writes mature BL novels featuring attractive teachers. The story takes an unexpected turn when she develops genuine feelings for her math teacher, transforming her life into the kind of romance she once only imagined on paper.
Director Lee Tae-gon brings his experience from hit series including "Hello, My Twenties!" (also known as "Age of Youth") and "Diary of a Prosecutor," both praised for their realistic portrayals of contemporary Korean life.
Jaehyun plays No Da-ju, an English teacher who comes from a wealthy banking family. His character is extroverted and attention-loving, with a tendency to quickly develop and abandon romantic interests. Da-ju shares a longtime friendship with the math teacher at the center of the story, having known him since elementary school days.
Leading actress Kim Hyang-gi, recognized for her work in "Along with the Gods" and "Innocent Witness," portrays the main character Yeo Eui-ju.
From Drummer to Actor
While Jaehyun's primary identity remains as N.Flying's drummer, he has consistently pursued acting since 2014. His television credits include "Modern Farmer," "88 Street," "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo," "All Kinds of Daughters-in-Law," "All Boys High," "Big Picture House," and "Half Fifty."
His international acting portfolio expanded in 2021 when he joined the Japanese drama "Love You as the World Ends," playing Korean survivor Yoon Min-joon. The role allowed him to showcase his versatility beyond Korean productions.
In 2022, Jaehyun landed the leading role in the horror film "The Ghost Station," which received its theatrical release in 2023. The project represented his debut as a film lead, marking another milestone in his acting journey.
N.Flying's Milestone Year
The timing of Jaehyun's return aligns with N.Flying's 10th anniversary celebrations. The band released their second full-length album "Everlasting" on May 28, 2025, marking their first complete group comeback in two years.
All five members reunited after fulfilling their military obligations, with Jaehyun being the last to complete service. The album achieved commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in its first week and breaking the group's previous sales records.
Throughout 2025, N.Flying has demonstrated continued popularity through sold-out concerts, successful tours across Asia, and recognition at various music awards. The band's decade-long career has established them as one of the leading rock acts in Korean music.
What's Next
"Romance's Absolute Value" is currently in negotiations with OTT platforms for distribution, though release details remain unannounced. The drama represents Jaehyun's opportunity to expand his acting range while maintaining his successful music career.
As someone who has balanced dual careers in music and acting, Jaehyun continues to build credibility in both fields-a rare achievement in the competitive Korean entertainment industry.
