Jeon Somi's Hollywood Debut 'Perfect Girl' Finishes Production in Thailand
K-pop artist Jeon Somi has officially wrapped her first Hollywood film. Zanybros announced December 19 that principal photography concluded on "Perfect Girl," a psychological thriller blending K-pop culture with horror elements.
The production filmed in Thailand over two months, beginning in late October. Director Hong Won-ki, who founded Zanybros and previously created Netflix's horror series "Goedam," helmed the project from a screenplay by Lynn Q. Yu.
What 'Perfect Girl' Is About
The film centers on trainees competing for four spots in a new K-pop girl group. With their debut concert one week away, a mysterious newcomer joins the competition. Girls then start getting attacked, transforming the selection process into a survival thriller.
Industry sources have compared the film to "Scream meets Black Swan," referencing its mix of slasher horror and psychological tension set within K-pop's competitive training system. Yu's screenplay appeared on the 2023 Black List before production companies Badlands and Thunder Road picked it up.
The Cast
Somi leads an international ensemble making her acting debut after building a successful music career. She won "Produce 101" in 2016, debuted with I.O.I, then launched solo work under The Black Label with hits including "Birthday" and "Dumb Dumb."
The cast includes Arden Cho and May Hong, who voiced characters in Netflix's "KPop Demon Hunters." Adeline Rudolph ("Chilling Adventures of Sabrina") and John Harlan Kim round out the main cast, while K-pop idols Nancy (MOMOLAND), Siyoon (Billlie), and Chaerin (Cherry Bullet) appear in supporting roles. Lee Jae-yoon, Thai actress Ally, and Samantha Cochran complete the lineup.
AC Bonifacio was originally cast but withdrew in November after fracturing her humerus in a motorcycle taxi accident during a day off from filming. The production team recast her role and reshot her scenes.
Music Component
Six original songs will appear in the film. Somi confirmed she'll contribute at least one track, produced by The Black Label-the same team behind the "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack.
Production and Distribution
Badlands and Thunder Road Films (known for the "John Wick" franchise) co-produced alongside Cho and Desert Bloom. Zanybros called the project a marriage of their two decades creating K-pop content with Hollywood filmmaking scale.
Benetone Films and Fearfolks recently joined as distributors, with Upgrade handling international sales and CAA Media Finance representing domestic rights.
The film now enters post-production, with no release date announced yet.
