BTS RM Donates $144,000 to Two Seoul Hospitals on 31st Birthday

BTS leader RM celebrated turning 31 by donating 200 million won ($144,000) to two major Seoul hospitals on September 12, continuing his annual tradition of birthday philanthropy.
The rapper split his donation equally between Seoul Asan Medical Center and Korea University Medical Center, giving 100 million won ($72,000) to each institution.
Supporting Medical Access for Vulnerable Patients
RM explained his motivation: "I decided to donate because I wanted to participate in a meaningful cause for my birthday. I hope that [this donation] will be of even the slightest help to patients who need treatment but are struggling financially."
Seoul Asan Medical Center will use the funds to help cover treatment and surgery costs for financially vulnerable patients, while Korea University Medical Center will use the donation to improve its clinical environment and expand medical services.
Annual Charity Tradition
This marks the latest in RM's consistent charitable efforts, particularly on his birthdays. His previous donations include support for cultural heritage preservation through the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation in 2021 and 2022, contributions to the Korean Academy of Forensic Sciences in 2023, and a donation to the Veterans Affairs Department's Veterans Fund in 2024.
Post-Military Service Activities
RM completed his 18-month mandatory military service in June 2025, along with fellow BTS members V, Jimin, and Jungkook. All seven BTS members have now finished their military obligations, with the group expected to reunite for activities in 2025.
On his birthday, RM also revealed a new blonde hairstyle to fans through Instagram, sharing photos from his birthday celebration at Mosu Seoul restaurant.
The donation demonstrates RM's commitment to using his platform for social impact, particularly in healthcare accessibility for economically disadvantaged patients in South Korea.
