After 7 Years Away, AKMU Just Dropped a Bombshell — and It's Only a Polaroid

AKMU 4th studio album comeback confirmed: South Korea's beloved sibling duo signals their return under a brand-new independent label.

A single Polaroid. No caption. No date. That's all AKMU posted to their official social media on February 23 - and fans lost it anyway.

The photo shows Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun standing next to each other, with two words scrawled at the bottom: "4th Album." No timeline, no title, no tracklist. Just those two words and a decade's worth of trust that AKMU doesn't miss.

It's been nearly seven years since their last studio album. Sailing dropped in September 2019 and proceeded to absolutely flatten Korean music charts. The title track "How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You're the One I Love" swept every major real-time chart simultaneously - Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver, Soribada, and Flo all at once - and it stayed in Melon's top ten for over a year. Billboard ranked it the 7th best K-pop song of 2019.

That's the legacy AKMU is building on.

The teaser is especially meaningful given where the duo currently stands. In November 2025, they parted ways with YG Entertainment after 12 years - the label that gave them their start after they won K-Pop Star Season 2 back in April 2013. They officially debuted under YG in April 2014 with the album Play, and "200%" became one of the defining K-pop songs of that era.

Now they're running things themselves. In January 2026, AKMU launched their own independent label, Fountain of Inspiration (영감의 샘터) - a name borrowed from the solo exhibitions Lee Chan-hyuk held in 2023 and 2025. The label launch alone was news. The 4th album teaser just weeks later makes it clear the creative engine hasn't stopped.

Chan-hyuk stayed busy even before all of this, releasing his second solo album EROS in July 2025. The duo also put out the mini album Love Episode in June 2024, celebrating their 10th debut anniversary.

No release date has been announced yet for the 4th album. But after seven years of waiting, AKMU fans aren't complaining about a little more suspense.
