roducer admits he "forgot" about the animated film project until witnessing its explosive worldwide impact

THEBLACKLABEL producer Vince never expected his work on Netflix's animated film "KPop Demon Hunters" would become a global phenomenon. Speaking ahead of his August 18 single "Cha Cha Cha" featuring G-Dragon, the 36-year-old revealed his surprise at the massive success of "Soda Pop," one of the film's standout tracks.

From Forgotten Project to Chart-Topping Hit

"I am surprised by the global popularity of 'KPop Demon Hunters.' As a producer, I am not used to being in the spotlight - even with hit songs - so receiving this kind of media attention feels very new and like a present to me," Vince told reporters in Seoul.

The producer explained that due to the lengthy animation production process, he had completely forgotten about the project after finishing his work. "KPop Demon Hunters" was released on June 20, 2025, on Netflix and quickly became a streaming sensation.

"The movie production period was so long that I made it early and then forgot about it," Vince said in his original Korean interview. "When it came out on Netflix, I watched it and had no idea it would be this explosive."

Witnessing Global Impact Firsthand

The reality of the film's success hit Vince when he saw "Soda Pop" being played in an Argentine plaza and when he appeared on Korean news programs to discuss the phenomenon. "When I appeared on the news desk because of 'KPop Demon Hunters,' that's when I really felt it physically," he shared.

Record-Breaking Success Numbers

The film has become Netflix's most-watched animated original film of all time with over 180 million views, while "Soda Pop" peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the Billboard Global 200.

The soundtrack held strong at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and has scored more than 3 billion global streams, making it the highest-charting soundtrack of 2025.

Creating Music for Animated Characters

Working on "KPop Demon Hunters" differed from typical K-pop production. Vince received only the fictional boy band name "Saja Boys," their concept, and black-and-white character sketches before creating the music.

"I received black and white sketches, so I had no idea that the 'Soda Pop' costumes would be so colorful," he explained. "I made it relatively bright, but the production team's feedback was that it needed to be even brighter, so I revised the melody and lyrics to be much more cheerful."

Behind "Soda Pop's" Deceptive Appeal

"Soda Pop" serves as the introductory song for the Saja Boys, the film's antagonistic demon boy band who present themselves as innocent and charming to mask their supernatural nature. The track was created by writers Vince, Kush, and Danny Chung, with production by 24, Dominsuk, and Ian Eisendrath.

Critics have described the song as infectiously catchy, with even the film's protagonists unable to resist its appeal.

Vince's Impressive Resume

Vince has extensive production credits including work on BIGBANG and BLACKPINK releases, TAEYANG's "WHITE NIGHT" album which spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard World Digital Albums chart, and co-writing LISA's "MONEY" which remained on the Billboard Global Top 10 for over four weeks.

Looking Ahead

With "Cha Cha Cha" featuring G-Dragon set for release, Vince hopes to transition from behind-the-scenes success to mainstream recognition. "I want to become a star," he admitted candidly.

The unexpected global success of "KPop Demon Hunters" has opened new doors for the producer, proving that authentic music resonates worldwide regardless of whether it comes from real or fictional artists.
