Actor's historic hosting run ends with tears and unexpected guest appearances

Park Bo-gum's groundbreaking stint as the first actor to host KBS2's "The Seasons" ended August 1, 2025, in an emotional finale that left both the host and audience in tears.

The biggest surprise came when IU made an unexpected appearance during the final recording. After initially appearing in a pre-recorded video message apologizing for not being able to attend, she suddenly walked onto the set saying, "I felt so bad, I came myself".

The moment became even more touching when IU knelt down in heels to present Park Bo-gum with a bouquet of flowers, causing him to break down in tears. The audience began chanting "Don't cry!" as she comforted him.

The two co-stars from Netflix's "When Life Gives You Tangerines" then performed an unrehearsed duet that moved the entire studio.

The finale featured performances from Kim Bum-soo, Zion.T, and Park Bo-gum's musical theater colleagues from his 2023 production "Let Me Fly".

Park Bo-gum opened with a full version of MeloMance's "Shall We Take a Break?", even jumping into the audience to interact with fans. Kim Bum-soo performed hit songs while Park accompanied him on piano, with the veteran singer joking about Park's talents: "Leave at least one human aspect for the rest of us".

Video messages from BTS's V and other celebrities also aired during the episode.

Park Bo-gum became the first actor to host "The Seasons" when he took over in March 2025. He personally chose the title "Cantabile" (meaning "as if singing") hoping the show would "leave viewers with gentle comfort and a warm aftertaste".

The show received widespread praise, with music director Kang Seung-won noting in June 2025: "Among The Seasons hosts, he is the most dedicated with regards to listening to music".

Park Bo-gum stepped down due to scheduling conflicts with his acting career, including his current role in JTBC's "Good Boy". To mark the finale, he released a digital single "Uphill Road" featuring Yoon Jong-shin on August 1.

The collaboration had already gone viral, accumulating 3.4 million YouTube views and 9.3 million Reels views before its official release.

The next host for "The Seasons" has not yet been announced, marking the end of a five-month run that proved actors can successfully lead music talk shows. Park Bo-gum's season will be remembered for its emotional depth and the genuine musical connections he fostered with guests.

Previous "The Seasons" hosts have included Jay Park, Choi Jung-hoon, AKMU, Lee Hyori, Zico, and Lee Young-ji, each bringing their unique style to the rotating format show.
